Air New Zealand schedules B50 biodiesel 747 test for December 3; jatropha fuel OKd by Rolls Royce
In New Zealand, AIr New Zealand announced that it has scheduled its 747 biofuels test for December 3rd. The test 747 said that the flight would use a B50 blend of jatropha based biodiesel, sourced from Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and India. Meanwhile, Rolls Royce said that it has cleared the jatropha fuel for the flight for use in its engines. The two hour flight out of Auckland will be the second test of biodiesel in 747s. Virgin Atlantic carried out a successful test flight last February using palm and coconut oil biodiesel.
