Jatropha Bio Fuel Production (Chiapas)

Blackfire is undertaking a large bio fuel (biodiesel & ethanol) development project on land that is adjacent to our mines. This will provide goodwill and income for the relatively poor indigenous farming population. We believe that the farmer’s income will increase two to three times by growing Jatropha. This project is a key component to securing the support of the farming community, which will allow our company to explore and mine throughout the region. The Jatropha plant has been proven to work as a biofuel in India, China, and Europe. It is native to the Chiapas region and grows profusely throughout Chiapas. There is also an abundance of feedstock for producing biodiesel and ethanol including sugar cane and African palm.

The Chiapas Government is very interested in our plans to plant Jatropha as the feedstock for producing bio-diesel. The biodiesel will be a primarily revenue producing product, however designating this fuel for mining and trucking use will also be very effective in reducing the transportation costs of our mines (and currently there is no tax on biofuel).

The Jatropha project is not complicated. It requires management and support for the farmers to establish the crops, create a delivery system to transport the fruits to our plant (utilize our trucks), and to process the seeds. The equipment required is simple and easy to operate.

Our objective is to provide additional revenue streams for the local populations affected by our mining operations. We believe that the biodiesel program will be economically viable and very profitable for the indigenous farmers, and ultimately for Blackfire as well.
