The governor of the state of Michoacan inaugurated Mexico's first biodiesel plant at the Lazaro Cardenas port. The vegetal fuel producer Propalma will generate about nine million liters of biodiesel a year and will create over 1,000 direct jobs. The fuel will be obtained by processing an endemic species known as higuerilla (Jatropha curcas) which is harvested in different municipalities within the Tierra Caliente area, also in the state of Michoacan.''
