"The process of restoring this classic game isn't straightforward so it's crucial to us to devote the time and effort to get it right--this includes poring over multiple game versions information, data, and codes thoroughly analyzing all modifications we've made over the many years," Blizzard's dev team has written.
"All the initiatives we're working on will allow us to recreate an authentic experience on a platform considerably more optimized and stable and will help us avoid problems with stability and latency. Other enhancements will include botting and anti-cheat detection, customer support and Battle.net integration, and similar features that don't impact the fundamental gameplay experience."
Blizzard says that the initial WoW Classic prototype was basically rebuilt Version 1.12: Drums of War from various sources and archives. This led to some significant issues: game crashes, issues with modern video buy WoTLK Classic Gold cards, incompatibility with the current login system used by Blizzard and more. Developers have revealed that they've built an additional prototype, using the game's current code and all its structural enhancements, which allows them to create a 1.12 version of the game that is safe on modern devices and compatible with Blizzard's existing infrastructure.
