Member Inquiries, Feedback and Testimonials
Good Morning Everyone.
Thank you all for your inquiries and most importantly - namely Cooky, DISCHINO and drandres for providing thoughtful responses. Having been here since our paradigm shifting model launched in October of 2007, this had always been our intention - to decentralize knowledge.
For far too long information lies in the hands of a small group of experts and the flow of this knowledge follows a top down approach. Here at AGORACOM we are pleased to do the opposite - we feel that the best information comes from a collection of knowledge and a breadth of opinion; and as long as we are around Investors will always have a say via our stock discussion communities.
Now on to your inquiries.
re: happyappie6 - Thoughts on Rating System:
At the present time, members can rate other members on a singular basis by calculating the average votes one receives on a scale of 1 to 5. For the infant stage of our community, we feel that this indicator has been a success.
Rest assured we are aware of how AGORACOM has enlarged since the inception of this system - and quite frankly we are begining to see that this simple average formulae cannot be relied upon as we move forward.
So one of the upgrades we are working on is a system of behavioral voting; we would calculate a users rating on a weighted average.
How would this work - while still in theory a behavioral rating system would work on two basis - the member who is giving the vote, as well as the member who is receiving it.
Let's assume that AGORACOMuser1 gives a 5 vote to AGORACOMHubLeader1. Our system would look at the following:
AGORACOMuser1's last 10 votes and AGORACOMHubLeader1's last 10 received votes. Depending on how the last 10 votes average out, the 5 vote AGORACOMuser1 would then be waited against the average of the last 10 votes. If AGORACOMuser1's 10 voting average is a 2.7, then the five will be weighted higher - if it is 4.7 the 5 will be given less credence.
Why so? If a user is constantly handing out 4 and 5's, then over time, any future 4 or 5 votes he gives others will have less value - if a user is however more strict in his or her voting patterns, then the 5 will have more value over time.
This way our rating system will be as recent as possible - we also anticipate that more people will be inclined to participate in our voting system.
re: DISCHINO - Private Messaging deletion:
Our site developers are working on a number of upgrades and given the size of restoring this application, it would require we take down our site for 30 minutes (in other words to enable this ap, we would have to republish our site). Hence this has been moved to our batch updates - where we group several updates and release them together.
At the present time I do not have a fixed date for a batch update however rest assured, timely notice will be provided.
In the interim we appreciate everyones patience.
Thank you all again for your participation and your contributions within the AGORACOM Community. I am grateful for sharing your insights with each other and really enjoy this participatory communication.
Kind Regards,
Andreas Marouchos
Community Director
