Quality, not quantity is the issue.
The EDIG forum has about 26, which is down from the mid 30's a while back, and about 1/3 of the total we have now, play "an active role" in performing their "duties" and I do not fault the other 2/3 for not wanting to mess with it. Some folks are more proactive than others by their personal make up, so that's the way it is and I suggest we accept such.
It is not manditory for HL's to flag or delete posts that continually violate the 6 rules, yet it is assumed by the masses it is "our job" which I do not agree with, yet more often than not it is the case. Anyone can flag a post, and if it is a rule violation they should. All members need to play an active role at their chosen hubs to help maintain a quality discussion, not just HL's. I do play an active role, but that's me....
Many feel the HL "position" is more of a status symbol than a "part-time job." There will never be 24/7 monitoring of a forum regardless of the number of HL's.
Some of the new hubs have HL's by self appointment, as there are none, where the well established long time running boards it started that way, then additions are by appointment from ones peers.
To me, there needs to be regular participation to remain a HL. So what's regular is the question, and that is very subjective.
What I suggest on a board who has too many Chiefs and not enough Indians, is to review ones post history, and if they have disappeared for months, send a PM asking if they intend to participate anymore. You will find many saying "I no longer care to, or I no longer hold a position in the stock." A simple e-mail to Agora after a reply such as this will allow Agora to purge the list. Lets face it, Agora is not running the hub, the posters are, and HL's need to act as part of a hubs management, such as keeping only enough HL's to be practicle.
My 2 cents...DISCHINO.
