Message: Tracking Cookies

Good Morning nopoo.

Thank you for clarifying that. Your Spyware and Antivirus software is picking up tracking cookies from Google. A cookie is a piece of data that’s exchanged by a server (say, Google’s server) with a web browser that’s using its web pages.

A cookie lets a web server track information about a particular web browser. For instance, a web server could store a cookie to help it track all of the web pages visited by you (actually, by your browser — including any other people who use the browser on your computer).

Browsers can store many different cookies at the same time. You can control which cookies are set and how long they’re kept.

Instructions as to how to remove cookies are pasted below:

In Internet Explorer 6 (the version available since summer 2001), go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options and click the Privacy tab. Then click the "Advanced . . ." button; in the smaller window that pops up, check the box next to "Override automatic cookie handling" and choose "Block" under the "Third-party Cookies" heading. Click the OK button to confirm that setting.

In Mozilla Firefox, go to the Tools menu, select Options and click the Privacy icon. Click the Cookies heading to display the cookie-acceptance policy, then check the box next to "for the originating Web site only." Click the OK button.

Thank you for your inquiry and your contributions within the AGORACOM community.

Regards,

AGORACOM
