The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, March 12, edition that Focus Ventures jumped a nickel to finish Thursday at $1.05. Jillian Glickman writes in The Globe's BNN Market Call column that the stock has a one-year range of 18 cents to $1.38. Brent Cook, editor of Exploration Insights, is focused on junior mining stocks and commodities. Mr. Cook says: "Focus Ventures is a speculative bet on drill results from the Nueva California gold project in Peru. We bought it for the depth and skills of the Peruvian exploration group who will continue to bring high quality exploration plays." In his general outlook Mr. Cook says: "The exploration and mining sector has been on a solid roll for nearly a year. Valuations for what are inherently high risk and unstable businesses -- mining and exploration -- are for the most part, too high. Assuming China doesn't run into economic troubles I expect the reality of exploration to catch up with the share prices and present us with more rational investment opportunities later in the year. I am however, quite aware of the major mining company's need for new quality deposits and think those rare companies with high margin deposits will be consolidated."
