Advances in unconventional gas production are transforming the dynamics of the global energy market. Output from coalbed methane, tight gas and shale has soared in the US and Australia in recent years, paving the way for a growth in exports and re-direction of LNG. Now exploration is underway in Europe and across the world, as companies seek to replicate the US experience.

2011 Will see new drilling and appraisal work across Europe and new global partnerships, but also pose new challenges for the industry. Unconventional gas producers must show they can operate in a sustainable fashion and gas must secure its position in the future energy mix.

While opponents fear the climate impact of a new supply of fossil fuel, for its supporters the unexpected increased availability of gas offers the potential for massive switching away from coal around the world, with huge carbon savings as the result, and at lower cost than nuclear or wind.

The development of unconventional gas will play a key part in shaping the future fuel mix, and impact all parts of the energy industry from generation to networks and storage and beyond.

Platts 2nd Annual Unconventional Gas conference will examine the impact of this 'game-changing' alteration to supply fundamentals. Participants will be able to discuss the latest development of world unconventional resources, share successful experiences in unconventional gas recovery, discuss successful models for international cooperation, project finance and advances in extraction technology. In depth case studies for recovery and extraction and pioneer projects will also be presented.

Platts 2nd Annual Unconventional Gas conference will bring together leading executives from across the region's major exploration and production companies, governments, national and regional regulatory bodies, key investors and market players.
