They have encountered gas shows throughout the well, however there are two main zones that are the most promising.

They have encountered gas shows throughout the well, however there are two main zones that are the most promising.

“After Falcon Oil & Gas acquired its 75 percent interest in the properties in 2008, and encouraged by the results of the Shenandoah No. 1, Falcon and PetroHunter deepened the well to 8,900 feet (2714 meters) in 2009. The Shenandoah No. 1A encountered gas shows throughout the well, including in the Lower Kyalla Shale, the Moroak Sandstone and intervening shales, and the Velkerri Shale. The Lower Kyalla and Velkerri shales suggest slight overpressuring (geopressured), while the upper Hayfield Mudstone is not abnormally pressured (under compaction) All targets in the basin are generally normally to slightly abnormally pressured.

Thermal maturity modeling suggests that the shales between 1,000 and 5,000 feet are in the oil window, and in the gas window at depths below 5,000 feet. Cores from the Kyalla and Velkerri shales, although not taken in the most favorable pay intervals, are very encouraging, averaging 90 and 106 cubic feet/ton, respectively, with good permeabilities and favorable brittleness characteristics for fracturing.”
