Exxon suffered numerous egg-in-the-face failures on exploration recently including Falcon. Everybody is convinced that the attempt by Exxon is not enough to justify calling the Mako a bust. So we wait for another major to step up. Tarnished image through failure can be very expensive to a Major like Exxon I would think. Inverstors could interpret failures as desperation attempts to continue upholding large numbers of reserves and potential. So to eliminate any more future possibility of embarrassment of failure and credibility loss in the Mako, they decided to run like scared dogs. Now looked at in a different way, this scenario could be absolutely perfect for a lesser major to step up. Gonna cost some dough, but lots of "free" info available about the geography. The latest batch coming from the biggest rival, Exxon thank you very much. A new major has way more to gain by "showing up" the big dog. Any success and you get raised eyebrows and murmurs of " Exxon couldn't crack this nut but __________ managed to. And Exxon just bought the best production company in the world. If I had a bunch of money and was the CEO of a competing company, I might seriously consider giving Mako a shot. Just one guys opinion. GO FO Lifer
