ExxonMobil has already drilled prospects in Germany, is planning more wells in Hungary and is in the "early phases of study" of shale-gas plays in Poland. (But despite television adverts in Europe saying the company is targeting shale gas to help salve European worries about energy security, the company is reluctant to give journalists any further details.)
