From one of the documents in my Beetaloo collection:
"The top of the Bessie Creek Sandstone is expected to be encountered at depths ranging from 2,200 to 2,700 meters in the deeper portions of the basin."
So it looks like they stopped drilling at the top of the Bessie Creek formation, which is the formation that is estimated to contain most of the gas. (39 TCF of the estimated 64 TCF)
