I hate to disappoint, but the statement "exploration will continue" was just the opinion of Michael Lynch, in his analysis of the shale gas story that appeared in the NY Times.

Of course Mr. Lynch has been a petroleum geologist for over 50 years, so I certainly value his opinions.
