IMO...If the fracture encountered a fault it will take the path of least resistence (the fault). If that was the case, the fracture did not accomplish much. A frac is supposed to open veins in the ROCK/STONE for oil or gas to migrate into the wellbore. Imagine picking up a stone in one hand and a handfull of coarse sand in the other. In a lot of tight gas plays that is the difference pre-frac and post-frac of what the restriction of the inflow will be (exagerated but gives you an idea). Easy to understand why a successful fracture process is vital to the success of the well. In a long winded way what I'm saying is there is no doubt that if the fault was not encountered the inflow would be substantially greater.
