Nabucco gas pipeline to reach Hungary no sooner than 2018?

Contrary to earlier plans, construction work on the European stretch of the Nabucco natural gas pipeline may not start until 2016, according to a recent statement by Spokesman Christian Dolezal. In this scenario, Hungary is unlikely to receive supplies through Nabucco any sooner than 2018-2018. Based on information available at this point, the project is scheduled to launch in 2011.
The delay was announced at an economic forum in Poland where Dolezal said “construction will continue from Ankara to Europe in 2016".
As details are not yet available, we can only speculate about the new schedule.
What has been known so far is the following: The first phase of the project, between 2011 and 2014, will create a new pipeline stretching from Baumgarten near Vienna to Ankara. At this point the new segment will connect to the source countries through the existing network in Turkey. The next phase will entail construction of the new Nabucco pipeline in Turkey to connect Ankara with the eastern border by 2015.
Assuming that Dolezal's statement was quoted correctly, and that there is no change in the start date of the project in 2011, it looks like the two major phases of the project will be realized in reverse order. In other words, the segment in Turkey may be completed first, to be followed by the European pipeline. If this is the case, Hungary will not be able to receive supplies through Nabucco until 2018-2019, since the European section requires approximately 3 years to complete.
