Miháy Bayer, Hungary's roving envoy for the Nabucco gas pipeline project, finished a three-day official visit to Washington. The trip was Bayer's fourth to the United States as Nabucco envoy, but the first with representatives of the Obama administration.
“I am going home with a good impression. I can see the Americans are counting on us, they appreciate what we are doing,” Bayer told Hungarian journalists in Washington on Thursday.
Last May, everybody thought the project was buried, but today everything is different, he said. “A significant change has taken place, today much more positive assessments are seeing the light of day.”
Answering a question by MTI, Bayer said Washington's assessment of the pipeline has not changed, but it is very important for the country to repair its relationship with Russia. That is why the Obama government avoids questions that could reduce the chance of repairing the rift between the two countries, he added.
The Nabucco pipeline would deliver gas from Central Asia to Europe, reducing the region's energy dependence on Russia. (MTI – Econews)
