Russian oil company Surgutneftegas on April 9 reported its acquisition of a 21.2% stake in Hungarian oil and gas company MOL to the Hungarian Energy Office (MEH) in compliance with Hungary's gas law, MEH informed MTI.

The business daily Napi Gazdaság reported on Tuesday that Surgutneftegas might not be eligible to vote at MOL's Thursday AGM, because the company had failed to satisfy the stipulation of Hungary's gas law requiring that acquisition of a stake exceeding 5% in Hungarian gas companies be reported immediately to MEH.

Before notifying Surgutneftegas that it had acknowledged the report, the Energy Office asked, however, the Russian company several questions regarding the acquisition to which it has still not responded, MEH said. (MTI – Econews)
