Óföldeák – There are two towers on the horizon to guide the traveler towards Óföldeák. One tower belongs to the legendary church-fortress, its history begin in the middle ages. The other tower is the tall gas well drilling-tower, that represents Óföldeák‘s future. The aspiration of this peaceful and friendly village is to become a destination place for people looking for a place to rest or enjoy the surrounding scenery.

While the drilling-tower points to the hopeful future, the church-fortress points into the past many centuries ago. The history of the Village begins in the Árpád-age in the eleventh century. The Village was named after Fülöp Deák, who was in the employ of Szent Gellért bishop of Csanád. After the bishop’s death, Fülöp Deák founded several abbeys and churches. The oldest surviving written records from 1332 mentions him as Fyldeák. The Village during the XIII and XIV century as part of Csanád diocese enjoyed a dynamic growth, but this ended with the Turkish invasion. A century and the half-later, after the Turks were driven out, with the Návay family’s re-settlement efforts life returned to the Village. However, the tranquil life was disturbed again in 1845, when a huge flood destroyed the Village, although no life was lost in the flood, most of the Villagers never returned, rather decided to start a new settlement 4 kilometers away. This new settlement became Földeák today.
