Hungary to ask EU to press Russia, Ukraine on gas

BUDAPEST, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Hungary will ask the European Union to take firm action and put pressure on Ukraine and Russia to settle their gas dispute as third parties are paying a heavy price, the prime minister said.

"It is unacceptable that parties are not meeting their contractual obligations. We will ask the EU to take firm action against Kiev and Moscow," Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany said. "All possible means must be utilised to put pressure on Kiev and Moscow."

"This is a dispute between two countries ... but the bullets are hitting us and this is unacceptable," he said. (Reporting by Balazs Koranyi; editing by Andrew Dobbie)
