Gas explorations are underway in the Bodzási road area.

One of our readers Endre Nyári, while out for bird watching, he has noticed something that was not there before. The object he saw actually is a drilling rig, which was erected near the Bodzási road. “It is well known that MOL has started a test well program in the Mintszent area, to explore the resource in the ground for future exploitation” – said Dr. József Molnár chief of the Szolnok’s Mining Bureau.

It was TXM Kft. that started the exploration of the very deep gas resource in the Makó Trough. They have drilled four wells in the Földeák area; also have drilled two other wells in different areas of the Makó Trough. The Mako Trough is a very large gas field that covers half of Csongrád County. In some area of the Mako Trough MOL have the exploration rights. The first well was drilled just outside Mindszent; the second one was started just a few days ago outside Hódmezővásárhely and near the Bodzási road. This well will be drilled in the excess of 4000 meters - said Dr. József Molnár chief of the Szolnok’s Mining Bureau. “There will be more drilling at another site further from here” – remarked Dr. József Molnár.

Our reader also asked the Mining Bureau chief, “Since the rig is very close to the levee at the Tisza River, what’s going to happen if the river floods?”

“Before an operator can commence operations, they have to get a license from the Water Authorities, and they have authorized the operation” – said Dr. Molnar. He also added, “MOL and Exxon are the operators jointly.
