Russian gas export monopoly Gazprom said it has started talks over gas debt with Ukraine and will announce the results of the talks late on Tuesday.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko dispatched a delegation to Moscow on Monday to discuss Ukraine's gas debt to Russia, which Gapzrom says amounts to $2.4 billion and Ukraine considers to be almost half of that.

Asked whether the talks have started in Moscow, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said, “Yes, they have.”

“We will announce the results later today,” he told Reuters. (Reuters)
