Explor: Eastford Lake Winter Diamond Drill Program |
ROUYN-NORANDA, CANADA--(Marketwire - May 08, 2009) - Explor Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:EXS) is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed the drill program consisting of three holes on the Eastford Lake Gold Property. The program was designed to analyse the Eastford Lake geological model and determine the structural controls of the Lynx Gold Zone mineralization. Three NQ holes were drilled, totalling 2,009 m, to further define the extent of and controls on the recently discovered Lynx gold zone. It is becoming apparent that the gold host rock, is an Fe-rich tholeiitic gabbro sill which occupies the axis of a tight regional fold, and, the Lynx gold zone is found in the gabbro where the fold axis crosses the contact of the gabbro and felsic pyroclastics. Anomalous gold mineralization was found in the flanks of the fold near the nose. The main vein of the Lynx Gold Zone containing visible gold and appears to continue to occupy the same environment northwest and southeast of its know location, with a nearly flat plunge. Whole rock and trace element analyses have been received for the gabbroic host rock. It is now clear that this rock is an Fe-rich tholeiitic gabbro, very similar to the host dolerites of the great Kalgoorlie gold field in Australia. The Kalgoorlie Gold Camp has produced in excess of 50,000,000 oz to date. The next diamond drill program is expected to commence May 16, 2009 and will target the expected strike extensions, both to the northwest and to the southeast. Also it was observed that at the end of Hole #18, from 684 to 689 m down-hole abundant quartz ankerite veins with 5 to 7% fine grained pyrite was encountered. It is planned to deepen this hole during this drill program. During the coming summer season, Explor will be carrying out an extensive program of Soil Gas Hydrocarbon (SGH) soil sampling. The SGH program will provide a gold "fingerprint" overlying the Lynx gold zone and will search for similar anomalies on approximately 30% of the Eastford Lake gold property. The property is situated in the Kerrs, Warden, Milligan Townships and the Rayner Lake area, south-west of Lake Abitibi, Ontario, 90 km east of the Timmins-Porcupine gold mining camp. The Eastford Lake Property consists of 170 contiguous unpatented mining units for a total of 3,100 hectares. The combination of widespread ankerite alteration and gold mineralization hosted by many different rock types, including quartz-feldspar porphyry, altered ultramafics, tholeiitic basalt and metasediments are reminiscent of the diverse types of gold mineralization found in major gold camps (e.g. Hollinger-McIntyre System and Dome Mine in the Porcupine Gold Camp) and the Kalgoorlie Gold Camp in Australia. Explor will continue updating the model as new drilling results expands and defines the Lynx Gold Zone.
