Ya Plums ,Slowlane and Aurom:
I have never mined, but lived and worked in the North Country. I run a ship on the Great Lakes sometimes in the winter. NOTHING works right when the temp get to -40 and the wind is howling. Then you get thaws and the roads get muddy and rutty. Then they refreeze and it is nothing but a mess.
People do not work well equipment does not work well it costs like hell to keep everything working and provide heat for repairs.
EVG has managed to exceed their planned program for 2009. While here may have been a premium paid for the 2 extra rigs, there is no doubt in my mind that it was far more economical than trying to do anything during the winter and all the challenges that presents.
Lets not forget the shortend hours of daylight during the winter months either.
EVERYTHING IS MORE DIFFICULT,EXPENSIVE,FRUSTRATING AND IT IS MORE DANGEROUS FOR THE EMPLOYEES AS WELL.
