TSX Venture Exchange-listed Ecometals has appointed Daniel Major to the position of COO, the firm said on Monday.

Major's previous position was as CEO of the resources unit of Basic Element, the investment company owned by Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska.

"We have aggressive plans to develop our iron and manganese holdings in Brazil, and we are implementing ambitious exploration programs at our properties in Ecuador. Daniel's expertise will be put to good use in both regions," said Ecometals CEO Fran Scola.

Major has been awarded 3-million three-year options, which have an exercise price of C$0,50 a share and vest over 18 months in equal monthly instalments.
