Honestly, I think that the prebid is a ploy by traders to see how much volume there is on the bid side of the coin by putting in these kinds of orders... I think they use this information to see what kind of sentiment there is for buying on any stock on any given day... just another way to manipulate the share price.
I remember when Noront was in it's 3 day trading halt... It stopped trading around 3.25ish (not really that important of a number...) but they managed to open the trading at $2.50 after stellar news. I know because I bought at market and had I known how they were pushing the bids and asks down, I would have doubled or tripled my order amount... I ended up buying the same amount of Noront 11 minutes later for $3.50. It was pushed down so the "traders" (and myself that day, only time that ever happened) could get shares that were either stop lossed or people panicking before knowing what the news meant.
What they do with this is to test to see who is buying... I don't know why they pull the bids/asks and let it go back down, probably just to get on people's nerves, maybe thinking that if they do it long enough, some poor shareholders would sell off and move on to other greener pastures.
It is an EVIL game these villians play, ME thinks... I don't like it, but, can't change it so I just tend to ignore it...
God Bless all Century Shareholders.
