NFI Group's Alexander Dennis subsidiary received an order for 33 double-decker zero-emission Enviro500EV buses, marking the introduction of its next-generation electric-bus technology in North America following launches in the U.K. and Asia-Pacific region.
The buses being ordered by Sound Transit, which provides regional transit in the Seattle metropolitan area, will be built in the U.S. by Alexander Dennis' partner Big Rig Manufacturing, NFI said Monday.
NFI said the Enviro500EV will be the first Alexander Dennis in North America using the manufacturer's zero-emission technology platform, combining its Voith electrical drive system and the use of inductive opportunity charging on double deck buses to enhance range and performance.
