You know if I was developing a new product (any product) it would probably need some firmware. Lithium ion battery cells have a battery management system which consists of hardware and software (firmware). To me this position is consistent with the developement of a new battery cell. They already have an NMC battery cell with a battery management system (BMS) so this new type must be different enough to need a complete new design of BMS. That also would be consistent with a solid state cell they have been working on for years.
If you have shares, I would hold on to them for a while as they may become more valuable overnight if they announce a solid state cell. JMHO just my opinion.
