Ok - I did some research.

As far as I could digg into that topic, this is a delivery van concept that was developt from the university of Aachen, which was later accelerated outside of the university. German Postal Service (DHL) bought the company and plans to build about 30K vehicles per year somewhere 2017 onwards. The vehicle is build for the changing needs for parcel delivery and last mile service. Currently production is limited to a much lesser amount of vehicles.

Digging a bit deeper: I learned that EFL was in the early stage a potential battery supplier and is still in contact with the company, but for the current batch of production vehicles (2016) they are potentially sourcing from another company.
