Two years age Elon Musk was up to his old tricks. He was throwing hints about the new GIGI factory and they hadn't even picked a site yet. Well maybe they had picked it but had not made it public. The following is a list of hints that were put out over a period of time:
The battery would be manufactured at less cost than current conventional LI Ion batteries.
The battery would be manufactured in an environmentallly friendly process.
The Technology would come from a small unknown company.
The battery life would be better and energy density greater than 200Wh/Kgm.
Then a year ago the hints stopped. I was then posting that Elecrovaya was the company.
Remember the grant to find an application for repurposed battery cells. I believe these cells came from the Chrysler battteries?? Have you ever seen a report on this project. It is just a coincidence that the battery cells in the TSLA powerwall are repurposed cells. I am sure TSLA has lots of them also..
GIGA plant announced production efficiency plan. Production lines will be constructed when there is enough demand to use the capacity. Excess capacity will come from other plants. Another production line will be put in service as there is demand to fill it. In other words they don't want a production line running partial capacity.
What other plants ?? Elon must be dreaming of multiple GIGA factories..
Recently TSLA announced the power wall was going to be available in Europe this Fall which coincidently coincide with when battery cells should be ready to start coming off the production line in Kamenz.
Of coures just like Nick, I am just crazy but hopeful !
