Companies like Plug Power and Electrovaya are already working toward the governor’s vision. Since 1997, Plug Power, based in Latham, has worked toward the commercialization of fuel cell technology. Electrovaya, headquartered in Canada with an office on NYSERDA’s site in Malta, has become a leader in the design, development and manufacturing of its proprietary lithium ion battery systems.
“We are just in the process of starting it,” said Mark Kopec, a spokesperson for Electrovaya. “We’re just on the cusp, or taking baby steps. We are assuming we will be a part of this.”
