CARACAS (Dow Jones)--Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Sunday that the U.S. and its allies have plans to sabotage his bid for reelection in 2012 as part of an "imperial" doctrine to control the world's oil supply.

"I know of the plans that they have for Venezuela, infiltrate the country, create [unstable] conditions for 2012," Chavez said. "They should not even think about it!"

Speaking during his weekly program, "Hello! President," Chavez also denounced the "indiscriminate bombing" of the UN-sanctioned military intervention in Libya as motivated by the oil-rich country's resources.

"Nothing justifies this, absolutely nothing," he said.

Chavez added that the U.S. and European assault against loyalist forces of Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi were likely claiming civilian lives.

"Those bombs fall where they fall, [on] a hospital, a home...it's indiscriminate bombing," he said.

The firebrand South American leader said that any similar attempt to "seize" Venezuela's oil would be met with a fierce resistance. "Don't even think about it with Venezuela, Mr. Obama," Chavez said ,directing his comments at the U.S. president.

Chavez and Gadhafi have built close ties as self-styled socialist leaders with the shared ambition of countering U.S. influence on the world stage.

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas, or ALBA, a coalition of left-leaning Latin American countries founded by Venezuela and Cuba, have opposed international military action in Libya, saying that any intervention would be a disguised attempt at seizing the North African country's oil supply.
