Not being a lawyer and not having any idea whatsoever about the contract, the reason why the property was expropriated, or the merits of the case, the fact that it was a unanimous 8-0 decision by the Supreme Court tells me it was a no-brainer.

Most SCOTUS cases are 5-4 decisions.  When the whole court votes the same way, it's very rare, and means it was a slam dunk.
