Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced on Monday that the first artisanal gold ingots manufactured in the Orinoco Mining Arc, south Venezuela, would be sent to the vaults of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), with a view to strengthening the country’s international gold reserves and the National Fond for Welfare Missions.

The president met with members of his cabinet in Miraflores Presidential Palace in Caracas, where he showed several gold ingots (12 kg each) manufactured by artisanal miners from the town of El Callao, southern Bolívar state. These miners, who have constituted the Socialist Mining Brigades, were granted permits by the authorities, and operate with minor environmental impact.
