The Electoral Court of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) on Tuesday admitted six actions to contest the election of eight deputies elected for opposition umbrella group Unified Democratic Panel (MUD), which would jeopardize the supermajority dissenters won at the National Assembly.

The actions involve the deputies elected for the MUD in Amazonas state (Constituency 1), Yaracuy state (Constituency 2), Aragua state (Constituencies 2, 3 and 4) and the indigenous deputy for the southern region of Venezuela (Constituency 2).

On Tuesday, the TSJ website published Report 164 confirming the admission of the six actions contesting the election of Nirma Guarulla (Amazonas state), Luis Parra, (Yaracuy state), Amelia Belisario and Melva Paredes (Aragua state), Karin Salanova (Constituency 3, Aragua state), Simón Calzadilla and Mariela Magallanes (Constituency 4, Aragua state), and Romel Guzamana, who is the indigenous deputy-elect for the Southern Region.

"Judicial coup attempt"

Secretary General of MUD Jesús Torrealba denounced that the Electoral Court of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) interrupted its Christmas vacation to admit the actions.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Torrealba said the move is the continuation of the "judicial coup attempt we denounced back on December 22."

The opposition coalition rejected the fact that attempts are being made to "disavow the people's will".
