Didn't totally give up on it. Took more of a curiosity position to see where this would all end. What I did do was get out of the closed shop type forum which in my opinion is not very healthy investment wise. Things tend to get steered in one direction mostly, and too attached to the story in an unhealthy manner. Too much "insider" crap took too many people down. Out in the public realm is better imo.
