Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez announced on Wednesday night a 50% salary increase for the military in an event with members of the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) that was held in Fuerte Tiuna military base, in Caracas.
Chávez said that the salary increase for military officers would be "retroactive to September." "They deserve it for the hard work done," in our country, the Venezuelan president added.
The Venezuelan Head of State urged people to neutralize the alleged "destabilization plans devised by the opposition" and ensure peace in the country.
Regarding the upcoming presidential elections, Chávez said: "We will give them a lesson because we will win the election and there will be no violence, but peace."
