Market Holiday, Labor Day, for US/Canada. CRYXF/KRY unfazed by economic world events.
Not a Market Holiday in the rest of the world. Asia Down 2-4%. Europe Down 3.5-5.5%.
Debt is much worse in the US/EU/worldwide, and things really not looking all that good economically, just about everywhere. EU/ECB in a world of hurt, and US banks are involved in EU debt, so will get hurt, too. Euro currency hanging by a thread and could see the beginnings of being dissolved once Germany or Greece bails. ECB/Fed buying their own bonds to try and hide this massive amount of debt, and prop the worldwide economy up. Those EU bonds bring a whole new meaning to Junk Bonds.
In the US, Unemployment is still bad and likely much worse than the official numbers say, with the under-employment taking the number up to 25%+. US Housing's continued recasting of Alt-A and Option ARM loans, as well as the enormous shadow inventory, looking to take down the banks again. Although, there are whispers of a possible gov't mandated re-fi imposing a 2.5% interest rate less than whatever you currently have - now that would be innovative and would definitely help. Looking around there is plenty of property, both housing and commercial, for sale everywhere. People downsizing with tons o' goodies showing up on Craigslist and eBay. Was Consumer Spending actually up as much as the numbers said earlier this week?... Likely Not - Spending was up because things cost more as the inflation monster has always been around, and is just starting to show in the numbers. Talk of QE3? QE3 has been ongoing, although unofficial and in stealth mode, with Fed currently and consistently buying US debt.
China starting to show some armor dings and pits. Growth not what it was. China Market still falling. China Inflation actually much higher than China admits, and now hitting the US.
Apologies for the soapboxing prose. Market is a rough one - everywhere.
Feeling fortunate to have a job that allows me to live somewhat comfortably in this terrible worldwide economy. Hope you all are enjoying your Labor Day Holiday.
