Message: FARC also helped the Venezuelan government

May 10, 2011 07:25 PM | London (AFP) .- President Hugo Chávez promised in 2007 a help of "300 million dollars that did not materialize to the armed group FARC, which provided political and territorial access , according to an analysis of computer equipment of former number two of the Colombian guerrilla, Raúl Reyes.

The report released in the afternoon, was developed by the Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) British counterpart said that the FARC also helped the Venezuelan government on the issue of security after the failed coup of 2002.

The research also reveals that the coming to power of President Rafael Correa, who allegedly "accepted" a contribution of "$ 400,000" of the FARC to his campaign for the guerrillas represented the "climax" of years of efforts to infiltrate in Ecuador.

However, the Colombian guerrillas never failed to enjoy the same "government support" in both Ecuador and Venezuela, the IISS concluded, a private institution specializing in strategic issues.

In its report "The documents of the FARC, Venezuela, Ecuador and the secret archive of Raúl Reyes together 240 pages of analysis of thousands of computer documents found on three computers, two hard drives and three USB sticks found in the Ecuadorian camp FARC where Reyes was killed on March 1, 2008 in a bombing of the Colombian forces.

Although the files were delivered to the IISS by the government of Colombia after Interpol confirmed the authenticity, the IISS defended the "independence of their research."

The Embassy of Venezuela in the United Kingdom rejected the report, and reported a possible "aggressive propaganda campaign" against his country just as relations with Colombia reached "a stable level of cooperation and friendly dialogue."

In Colombia, the Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin, when questioned about a radio station, declined to comment on it.
