Jan 28, 2011, 2:27 a.m. | Boston. Citgo Petroleum Corporation, a subsidiary of PDVSA, announced the launch of Agenda Venezuela-CITGO Heating Fuel for the sixth consecutive year, an initiative that has helped 500,000 people each winter, including members of more than 250 indigenous and 234 shelters homeless in 25 states and the District of Columbia, United States.

Citgo President Alejandro Granado, and the director of Citizens Energy Corporation, Joseph P. Kennedy, accompanied by a beneficiary of the program, performed the official launch of the energy assistance program, delivering heating fuel to a poor family in the Boston area, as reported in a press release from the state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela .

Pride

"Citgo is proud to continue our heating oil program, an initiative of President Hugo Chavez as a genuine expression of the solidarity of the Venezuelan people with the most vulnerable, wherever they are," said Citgo CEO Alejandro Granado.

"Without a doubt, is one of the proposals most important social and sustainable energy corporation that has implemented some in the U.S. and the world", which is expected to continue, officials said.

Warm Homes

Granado also stressed that, according to official figures, eight million U.S. households are forced to choose between heating their homes in winter or cover other basic needs. "What each of us would choose if I could only afford one thing and not another? Prefer to heat our houses and feed our families?

These are dilemmas that no one should be exposed, since the heating in extreme cold weather should not be a luxury but a right. "

Since 2005, 170 million gallons (772,880,000 liters) of heating oil has been donated to poor families throughout the United States, which has helped to keep heat in their homes during the cold winter months .

Contributions

"Every year, many low-income families in America struggle daily to put food on the table and heating their homes," said Joseph P. Kennedy, director of Citizens Energy Corporation.

"We are deeply grateful to the people of Venezuela and Citgo for your generosity. Each year we request contributions from major oil companies and oil producing countries. Only one country, Venezuela, and Citgo have responded to our call , "said P. Kennedy in institutional note. Petroleos de Venezuela shows this program in its list of accomplishments.
