Caracas, December 29 AVN .- La Corporacion Venezolana de Guayana (CVG) on Wednesday celebrated its half century of life, focused on sustainable development in the south.

The institution plays a fundamental role in the creation of district development engines, highlighted the corporation's president, Joseph Khan, according to a press release from the Ministry of People's Power for Basic Industries and Mining.

He explained that 10 of the 30 districts are formed in Guyana, including five located in the scope of the CVG: Caicara-Cabruta, Guyana, Tucupita-Delta, and St. Helena Cuyuní Ikabarú Brazil.

In addition, as part of the Federal Act Governing Council, enacted in February this year, the CVG will coordinate the Technical Office of the South, responsible for reviewing and approving development projects for the states of Amazonas, Bolivar and Delta Amacuro.

Khan also highlighted the Corporation promotes an alternative economy based on new forms of ownership of the means of production.

The CVG is a decentralized state institution whose purpose is rational and sustainable exploitation of large water resources, forestry, iron, bauxite, gold, diamonds and other minerals in southeastern Venezuela.

The make up 15 companies and over 18,000 employees. It rises as economic and social hub in a region that includes five states and over 50% of Venezuelan territory.

He was born as an autonomous institute on December 29, 1960, with the hope that the South became the possibility of testing new ideas of development, comprehensive vision, through the exploitation of the riches, mainly minerals existing in Guyana .

Since May this year, the board of the basic industries that comprise the Corporation is made up of workers elected by the labor force, in what has been called workers' control within the Socialist Guiana Plan.

The president, Hugo Chávez Frías, stated that it plays with the workers, from which working groups were formed to diagnose the problems and solutions of the consortium.
