The value of pending metal and mining deals involving Chinese companies reached $9.3 billion at the end of the first quarter, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post reported today, citing Michael Elliot, global mining and metals leader at Ernst & Young LLP in Sydney.

The figure accounts for about 20 percent of the global total, the report quoted Elliot as saying.
