I believe in the U.S. that BOTH gold bullion and coin are taxed....not at the reduced capital gains rate but as regular income. The founding fathers declared gold the coin of the realm and now it's taxed as regular income when it's value rises as a result of reckless printing of paper currency. If you buy the gold ETF you get screwed tax wise.
