Crystallex International Corporation is a Canadian-based gold company with a successful record of developing and operating gold mines in Venezuela and elsewhere in South America
From the high governmental spheres speech that the Caura Plan looks for to eliminate illegal the mining campings and to evacuate all the adjacent zone to the Caura rivers, Caroní and Paragua, in the shores of the lake of Guri and in the margins of the Ikabaru river to avoid that it is continued destroying the environment, as much the flora as the fauna. But what one does not inquire with property they are the plans that the Government with more than 2 thousand people has who have been evacuated, because many of them are Venezuelans who only know this office and who had taken root in this zone to manage to subsist. One of these cases is Josefina Manrique who does not count on house in the city and had been years working in these campings.
“We do not have answer of the government and we do not know that we are going to do, we did not count on forms to go us to the city, many make miracle to leave the campings” denounced.
These people are not the unique ones harmed by these actions undertaken by the national government because the indigenous communities were themselves favored of the gains obtained by the mining, something that was denounced by military cash and verified in the camping of the ethnic group Pemón Parkupik, located to 40 minutes of flight from Santa Elena de Uairen and in the neighborhoods of the illegal camping of Fariñero, in this zone they live more than 300 people and who have seen widely favored by the extraction of gold since of this form they have managed to progress.
Thanks to the Mining
This zone has progressed by the contribution that obtained of the mining since they feel forgotten by the national Government because they have been taken never into account. Ediberto Fernandez, inhabitant for 20 years of Parkupik expressed that they have obtained all thanks to the mining. “We worked hard without the aid of the government, now we do not know that we are going to do because they do not give answer us” it indicated.
Also it indicated that although this zone can be used for a great project of agriculture because sweet yucca, pineapple or cane can be harvested, do not realise it because they do not count on transport reason why to remove the fruits towards the city would have a very high cost.
“We Can seed to eat but he does not stop to subsist, because the trip to Santa Elena is very expensive, in addition we did not count on sufficient wagon machines nor reason why it is not possible to be traveled by earth, we are left” expressed.
Absence of the State
Frank Ricardo is the captain of the community of Parkupik who explained that lamentably they have had to assimilate the mining culture by absence of the State because is a separated community of all the services, in addition are clear of the damage to the environment but without these economic entrances the community does not seem to have future.
“The miners contributed to community 10% of the gains after each summary, are good ones that they like to contribute while they exist bad that they do not like to support better are the Brazilians than the own Venezuelans” indicated.
This capital one was handled by a cooperative that works for four years and was used for different projects, as the electrical plant, the aerial track, church among others. Franc was thankful to Armed Forces his work to preserve environment that is an inheritance its ancestors, that have been destroyed partly, recognize these damages but they aspire that they offer solution to them to continue progressing and to subsist like community.
The Malaria abounds
Many of the 129 indigenous communities of the Great Savannah count on serious problems of diseases due to the lack of governmental aid, the transport difficulties and the lack of medicines, Parkupik is not the exception.
Pedro Clauteaux, tropical medicine specialist, explained that the work is complicated and the conditions are lent so that is not improvement in the patients because they do not receive constant attention.
“We do not have means of transport, nor medicines in spite of this situation we take care of natives and mining workers who have a life last and are the more pending of their work that of the health leaving situation the point the more critic arrive at”, it aimed.
The most common diseases are malaria and malario by the conditions in which the miners besides the problems live on fumigation which they exist in these countryside what increases to the mosquitos and the risk of infection.
For this reason it demanded the national government to him who improves the shipment of equipment and medicines to these communities. “What it is necessary more is average of transport to manage to remove to the patients to a site where they can better be taken care of besides transferring medicines to these unprotected sectors” added
Also it indicated that the Venezuelans must realize that in the savannah where the rivers are born and is the lung of the country live animal people is not only forest and. “There are many natives who have benefitted thanks to presences from doctors, teachers and missionaries, which has allowed that these populations continue themselves fortifying, these people need that they take care of them, for that reason is that she is due to support to him with the health, education and is present at of the State, lamentably one arrives only because the same beings do not have the capacity to move to these zones” limited.
Also it defended the mining workers of the accusations of diverse governmental beings. “The majority of the miners is good people, clear that there are swindlers but they are not all, I do not plead for the mining but for the human beings who lived on that office and helped the indigenous communities that have progressed thanks to the money of the mining” concluded.
