Jaua rejected attacks fanbase for action against illegal mining

"Every time the Venezuelan government ordered a major military action against illegal mining, gold bosses lash out against the Bolivarian National Armed Force (fanbase) and try to involve their members in this issue," reported the Executive Vice President Republic, Elias Jaua.

The vice president made this reference in a press conference in Ciudad Bolivar, Bolivar state, accompanied by several ministers and the Governor Francisco Rangel Gomez, in which he presented the details of the Caura Plan, launched to eradicate illegal mining that destroys the watershed Caura River Basin, a tributary of the Rio Caroni and Guri Dam.

Also moved by air to one of the points where members of the Theater of Operations # 5 of the fanbase perform actions to stop deforestation of forests and destruction of soils and rivers by miners. "These allegations are evidence of the bird shooting shotguns (...) our fanbase, as an institution is the only one who has been there in the fight against this and other forms of penetration of our sovereignty and territory," he said.

He said authorities have been following the press "and we have seen spokesmen openly identified as promoters and entrepreneurs from illegal mining, attacking our Armed Forces so unfounded."

Jaua said that if there is any member of the fanbase involved in this activity, the institution would be the first to prosecute him and put under the command of the law. "

He added that the Caura Plan is not limited to this basin but will cover all the watersheds that feed the Guri Dam, which supplies hydroelectric power Simon Bolivar (Guri), Francisco de Miranda (Caruachi) and Manuel Piar (Macagua), generating 73% of the electricity consumed in the country.

"This is a fight that will not end up mining to eradicate both the Caura and La Paragua, Cuyuni, Caroni and other environmentally sensitive areas", he said.

He urged the community and institutions support the initiative to end the lawlessness and illegality that works with gold and diamond mining in these areas, which becomes an unlawful economic activity and damaging the environment.

He said that the Ministry for Basic Industry and Mining (Mibam) was instructed by the president, Hugo Chávez Frías, to develop a national mining company to enable the State to take control of this activity in conjunction with small and medium miners legally established.

On the alleged involvement of Indians in the illegal exploitation of gold in the Caura, said: "The performance of a group does not endorse this indigenous peoples, on the contrary, they repeatedly have expressed their rejection of their forests and rivers are predators. "

I note that in the case of the Caura is Yekuana special collaboration of the people, predominantly in the area of Bolivar. "They have been advocates against illegal gold mining. Likewise, the other indigenous peoples bolivarenses rejects the damage and outrage generated by mining," he said.
