Leader of Venezuela's largest business chamber says he could face treason charges
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - The president of Venezuela's largest business chamber says prosecutors are investigating him for allegedly committing a series of crimes ranging from treason to rebellion.
Noel Alvarez of the Fedecamaras business chamber says he hired a defense lawyer after authorities notified him of the probe.
Alvarez did not elaborate during a news conference on Monday, saying only that he could face charges of treason, rebellion and instigating a crime.
Representatives of the Attorney General's Office could not be reached Monday for comment.
Allies of President Hugo Chavez claim Alvarez should face criminal charges for allegedly saying the solution to Venezuela's problems should involve the military.
Alvarez denies any wrongdoing
