President Chávez assesses government results in 2009

From the Ayacucho Hall of Miraflores Palace and accompanied by his ministers, President Hugo Chávez on Wednesday assessed the results achieved by his government in 2009, as well as his forecasts for 2010, while sending Year End's greetings to Venezuelans.

He noted that during a meeting with Minister of the Interior and Justice Tareck El Aissami, official figures showed that 2009 ended with positive results. "This is a year that ends well."

"According to the data provided by Minister El Aissami -which are carefully recorded at the different command and security posts- 15.7 million people have moved during the Christmas season by air, land and water, which means an increase of 10.2 percent over the previous year," Chávez said in a mandatory radio and television broadcast.

He added that, as reported by the security forces, "traffic accidents and other unfortunate events including injuries and deaths have decreased by 30 percent" during the holidays.

He noted that in Venezuela prevails a climate "of respect, affection, good wishes and good feelings everywhere."
