Miners call for payments to Mibam
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

The so-called "mining conversion" continues to talk about. On Monday a group of former workers claimed gold in Ciudad Bolivar for outstanding payments and threatened to radicalize the protest with a hunger strike in front of the OAS office in Caracas.

Former mineworkers appropriated 807 Monday four thousand signatures to the Governor of Bolivar State to substantiate their claims breach of social and economic benefits promised by the Government, through Mibam and Mission Piar.

A committee of miners presented the request to two members of the Ombudsman, and Nelly Oropeza Zeila Malave, who signed the minutes of the regional executive commitment to act as mediator in this conflict.

Alfredo Villanueva, a spokesman for the former workers of mining, said more than three thousand miners were not receiving the promised payments and social benefits such as housing, jobs and social and production credits. "They promised social security pensions 288, 300 jobs and 150 homes, and none of it was" whipped Villanueva, who warned Tuesday that if for not receiving replies to these requests will begin a hunger strike at the gates of the OAS in Caracas.

The former workers of mining in the region who continue to demand the promised payment through the mining conversion call, took up positions near the Ombudsman, and are waiting for Tuesday to deal with the government and the Plaza Bolivar. (CM)
