Venezuela becomes US's second-biggest fuel supplier

28-08-09 Venezuela became the second-biggest supplier of fuel to the US last quarter, as exports of oil, gasoline and refined products slipped less than sales from other producers amid slowing demand in the world's largest economy.
Venezuelan exports to the US fell 5.4 % to 1.39 mm bpd in the second quarter, from 1.47 mm a year earlier, based on figures posted on the US Department of Energy Web site. Venezuela jumped to second place from third, leapfrogging Saudi Arabia, which shipped 32 % less fuel.

Venezuela continues to send the bulk of its oil exports to the US, five years after President Hugo Chavez started seeking to diversify his nation's customer base away from the country he calls "the empire." Net exports were 2.37 mm bpd in June, according to data from the South American country's Energy Ministry.
Canada is the biggest supplier of fuel to the US.
