Presidential misfortune motivated expropriation of the Hilton Hotel
Thursday, 15 of October of 2009

Several civil servants and deputies of the PSUV strived behind schedule during the morning and of this Wednesday in explaining “the social” reason of the presidential decree that ordered the “unavoidable acquisition” of the Hilton Daisy. Nevertheless, the author of the measurement last night clarified the true reasons of this decision: “To make the summit (America of South Africa) we had to request permission, and the owners trying to put conditions to him to the revolutionary government; nonSir, then I said “we are going to expropriate it” and is expropriated”.

The Hilton Hotel in the Daisy island presented/displayed a “very advanced deterioration”, reason why the government decided to expropriate it for “socializing it” and to turn it into a center of tourist qualification, they justified the authorities this Wednesday.

“We are going to socialize the hotel”, said the minister of Tourism, Pedro Morejón, in declarations to official television VTV.

The person in charge indicated that the facilities very entered “a deterioration stage outpost”, that motivated the government “to impel a plan of rescue of these areas”.

The process of expropriation, decreed the past Tuesday by Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, later began a day with a “taking to doors abiertas”, according to Morejón.

The presidential version
This Wednesday, Chávez explained that it ordered the expropriation on the occasion of II the America Summit of the South Africa, that reunited in the facilities of the Hilton Daisy to Chiefs of State and representatives of more 60 countries at the end of September.

“To make the summit we had to request permission, (...) and the owners trying to put conditions to him to the revolutionary government; nonSir, then I said “we are going to expropriate it” and is expropriated”, indicated the agent chief executive.

Morejón needed that although the hotel was patient for 20 years by the Hilton chain, the Venezuelan State was the majority shareholder. “What we are doing is to take possession from the 100% of the actions”, it added.

“I am going to change the name to Him, a criollito name (vernacular) I am going to him to put because that Hilton mark is international”, Chávez added.

In that sense, his minister explained that the objective of the government is “to improve the quality of the service” and to impel the development of a “center of qualification and formation for the tourism”, that would work in the facilities of the Hilton.

On the other hand, the American chain of Hilton hotels affirmed that it was “evaluating” the decision of the Venezuelan Government and “the way” in which the same “affects its interests”.

Besides the Daisy hotel, the Hilton chain got to operate other two hotels in Venezuela: one in Caracas that also happened to control of the State, and another one in Barquisimeto (the northwest) that was acquired by another enterprise group, reviewed the local press. (AFP)
